Yankees Suck Timeline
Thanks to the help of Jeff James, and the website YankeeHater.com we now have a growing list of dates in history when the Yankees did what they do best... sucking. Included are events in which the Yankees were humiliated, embarassed, and showed what kind of classless greedy a-holes that they really are (see: Aug. 18, 1995.)

Starting from the Yankees first season of exsistance, the Yankees went 18 consecutive seasons without winning a pennant (1903-1920). This team sucked from the very beginning.
On Jun. 28, 1907 Yankee catcher Branch Rickey allowed THIRTEEN stolen bases
by Washington.
On Aug. or Sep. 7, 1908 20-year-old Walter Johnson shut out the Yankees
for
the third time by his team in a four-game series.
After the 1912 season, the New York Yankees (or then Highlanders) finished the season 55 games behind the first place Boston Red Sox.
On Feb. 10, 1916 Newark, of the Federal League, sold Germany Schaefer to the Yankees. It was not the best use of the Yankees' money. Schaefer appeared in one game for the Yankees and did nothing. He did not bat, score a run, steal a base, or make a play on the field.
On Sept. 18, 1916 Connie Mack and his A's were the worst team in American League history. His competitors, the Phillies, were in a pennant race. It was a dreary weekday afternoon. With all of these factors against him, he could not have expected a large crowd....He checked the schedule, hoping for an attractive opponent....How his heart must have sunk to see it was the Yankees.
...Twenty-three people attended the game at Shibe Park.
On May 20, 1922 ahead 2-1 in the ninth, Sam Jones dropped a putout and the
Browns beat the Yankees EIGHT to two.
On Oct. 5, 1926 Jesse Haines shut out the Yankees four to nothing AND hit
a
TWO-RUN HOME RUN.
In October 1926, in the 9th inning in game 7 of the World Series vs. the St. Louis Cardinals, with 2 outs Babe Ruth was cought trying to steal second base to end the game, as the Cardinals had their first World Championship.
On Aug. 4, 1929 the Indians scored NINE in the ninth after TWO outs to beat
the Yankees fourteen to six.
On Jul. 28, 1931 the White Sox had an ELEVEN run eighth inning to beat the
Yankees fourteen to twelve.
On April 29, 1933 Luke Sewell tagged out TWO Yankees at home on the SAME
play.
On Mar. 23, 1936 it became apparent that Joe DiMaggio's unusual injury was serious. DiMaggio had left his foot in a diathermy machine for too long and had suffered burns. Having more important things to do that pay attention to a future Hall of Famer, the Yankee trainer had left DiMaggio unattended.
On July 14, 1939 the Yankees got only ONE assist against the Tigers.
In the 1964 season, Dean Chance dominated the Yankees. In fifty innings pitched, he allowed the Yankees one run on fourteen hits.
On Apr. 30, 1946 Bob Feller NO-HIT the Yankees while a PITCHER (Bob Lemon)
played the outfield.
On Oct. 3, 1947 Cookie Lavagetto's two-run double broke up Floyd Bevens'
no-hitter AND beat the Yankees three to two.
In 1949 the Yankees DECLINED to buy WILLIE MAYS' contract for FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS.
On Jul. 15, 1952 the Indians pulled a TRIPLE steal against the Yankees.
On Jun. 6, 1954 catcher Clint Courtney got an UNASSISTED DOUBLE PLAY against
the Yankees.
On october, 1955, Sandy Amoros' spectacular catch in game 7 of the Wrold Series, and relay to complete a near-impossible double play stopped the Yankees from scoring, as the Brooklyn Dodgers beat the Yankees 2-0 and won the series.
On Sep. 21, 1956 the Yankees left TWENTY runners on base in nine innings.
In October, 1960, Unlikly-hero Bill Mazeroski (11 regular season homers) hit a bottom of the 9th home run in game 7 of the World Series to send the Yankees home.
On Oct. 18, 1960 Casey Stengel was fired by the Yankees for being TOO OLD.
On Jun. 24, 1962 Jerry Casale had NINETEEN SCORELESS relief innings against
the Yankees.
On Nov. 26, 1962 New York traded Bill Skowron, who would help the Dodgers beat the Yankees in the 1963 World Series. They received Stan Williams in return for their starting first baseman.
In a sense, the Yankees acquired a pitcher like Williams six decades too late....In 1906, the Yankees were eliminated from the pennant race, when Harry Davis hit ball three, of what was meant to be an intentional walk, for a home run.
As a Dodger, Williams had been told to issue an intentional walk. He hit the batter, reasoning it made no sense to throw extra pitches.
On Aug. 20, 1964 the incident with Phil Linz playing the harmonica took
place.
In October 1964, The St. Louis Cardinals, lead by Bob Gibson beat the Yankees in 7 games. It was the last time Yankee veterans Mickey Mantle, Whitey Ford, Bobby Richardson, Tony Kubek and Clete Boyer saw the postseason in their careers.
In October, 1968, The Yankees were swept in the World Series by the LA Dodgers. The Yankees scored a total of 4 runs in the 4 game sweep.
On Sep. 22, 1966 attendance at the Yankee game was FOUR HUNDRED THIRTEEN.
On Jul. 14, 1967 Boston's Bill Rohr no-hit the Yankees for eight and
two-thirds innings in his FIRST big league game.
On Jun. 4, 1969 the Twins got a TRIPLE steal against the Yankees in the
eighth.
On Jul. 27, 1978 Duane Kuiper hit TWO BASES-LOADED TRIPLES against the
Yankees.
In October 1981, The Yankees lost the World Series in 5 games, George Frazier tied the World Series record of three consecutive losses, and also sets a mark for most losses in a World Series that's shorter than seven games.
On Dec. 9, 1981 Toronto got Fred McGriff, Dave Collins, Mike? Morgan AND
$400,000 from the Yankees for Dale Murray.
On May 6, 1982 Gaylord Perry got his 300th win against the Yankees, who
had
traded him two years earlier.
On Jan. 10, 1983 the NY Supreme Court had to BAN the Yankees from playing
in
Denver, which they wanted to do while Yankee Stadium renovations were made.
On Aug. 4, 1983 Dave Winfield was throwing in a between-innings warmup. One of his throws hit this bird, killing it. Toronto police arrested the Yankee outfielder and charged him with cruelty to animals....Had the case gone to trial, Winfield's attorney could have proved reasonable doubt. Winfield had only five assists in 151 games in 1983, indicating he rarely threw accurately.
On Aug. 4, 1985 Tom Seaver got his 300th win against the Yankees.
On Oct. 17, 1987 Billy Martin was hired a FIFTH time to manage the Yankees
(he was fired before even finishing the 1988 season)
On Aug. 16, 1989 Dallas Green became the sixteenth manager to be fired by Steinbrenner. No longer content to fire just the manager, Steinbrenner also axed four coaches.
On July 1, 1990 Yankee pitcher Andy Hawkins pitched a complete game no hitter in Cominskey Park, but the Yankees still managed to lose to the White Sox 4-0.
On Aug. 18, 1995 Phil Rizzuto was NOT PERMITTED to leave to attend Mantle's
funeral so he resigned as the Yankees broadcaster.
On Sep. 11, 1995 the Yankees got NO assists against the Indians.
On Oct. 1995, After being down 2 games to 0 in the ALDS, the Mariners tied the series. Then in game 5 Edgar Martinez's bottom of the 9th line drive drove in 2 runs to knock the Yankees out of the playoffs.
On May 29, 1997 Pitcher Hideki Irabu signed a $12.8 million contract, four-year contract (with an additional $8.5 million signing bonus) with the Yankees in 1997 after nine seasons in the Japanese major leagues. He went 5-4 with a 7.09 ERA during his first season.
In October, 1997, after being 4-outs away from advancing to the ALCS, Mariano Rivera served up a game-tying homer to the Indians as the Yankees went on to lose the game. The Indians then beat the Yankees 4-3 in game 5 and knocked them out of the playoffs.
On Apr. 15, 1999 Yankee Outfeilder Darryl Strawberry was charged with possession of cocaine and soliciting a prostitute after offering an undercover cop $50 for sex. It was his first drug offense of many to come.
On May 12, 1999 Chuck Finley struck out FOUR Yankees in one inning.
On Mar. 11, 2000 Andy Morales, the third baseman who left Cuba in July 2000, signed a four-year, $4.5 million contract with the Yankees. He hit just .231 with one homer and 14 RBI, and displayed poor defense with Double-A Norwich. It was then found that Morales was 29 (3 years older than the Yankees thought) and he was released from the team ($4.5 million dollars richer) without ever getting a major league at bat.
On Sep. 28, 2000 catcher Mike DeFelice tagged out TWO Yankees at home on
the
SAME play.
On Novemeber 4, 2001, Luis Gonzalez's bottom of the 9th single put the Arizona Diamond backs over the Yankees, making them the fastest expansion team to ever win a World Series, and putting an end to the Yankee dynasty.
On March 13, 2002, Yankee outfeilder Ruben Rivera was caught stealing star-shortstop Derek Jeter’s glove and bat from his locker and selling them to a sports memorabilia dealer for $2,500.
On October 5th, 2002, the Anaheim Angels ($62,000,000 payroll) beat the Yankees ($126,000,000 payroll) and knocked them out of the playoffs in the first round, ending the Yankees streak of 4-consecutive AL pennants.
